The Wall Speak In Flowers
A Collective Exhibition by Common Clay Artists, 26 June – 31 July 2026
This summer, Ruup & Form presents The Walls Speak in Flowers, a collective exhibition by the artists of Common Clay. Bringing together ceramic sconces and wall pockets, the exhibition celebrates the relationships, conversations and exchanges that shape a creative community, exploring how creativity flourishes through connection, collaboration and shared making.
The exhibition brings together a diverse group of ceramic practitioners whose individual voices are united through a shared commitment to material exploration, experimentation and mutual support. Installed throughout the gallery, the works become vessels for light, growth and dialogue, creating a rich landscape of forms that speaks to both individual practice and collective endeavour.
Ruup & Form's relationship with Common Clay began through gallery artist Carla Wright, whose practice has long embodied the values of curiosity, generosity and shared learning that define the collective. Through this connection, the gallery was introduced to a wider network of makers whose approaches to clay are distinct yet interconnected, reflecting the dynamic exchange of ideas that takes place within a shared studio environment.
"Making can often appear solitary, but it is rarely done alone. Every piece carries traces of conversations, shared discoveries and acts of generosity exchanged between makers. This exhibition celebrates the invisible threads that connect a community of artists and the shared environment that continues to nurture and inspire our work," says Carla Wright, Founder and Member of Common Clay.
As a studio community, Common Clay is built upon the circulation of knowledge, skills and experiences. Techniques pass between artists, conversations begun at one workbench continue at another, and individual practices are continually enriched through a culture of learning, collaboration and exchange. The exhibition offers a glimpse into this ecosystem of making, revealing how artistic growth is often nurtured through collective support rather than solitary pursuit.
Taking its title from the resilience and persistence of growth, The Walls Speak in Flowers considers how creative communities take root, flourish and evolve. The ceramic sconces and wall pockets become both functional and symbolic forms, holding light, flowers and traces of human connection. Together they transform the gallery into a living conversation between artists, materials and space, tracing the visible and invisible networks that bind a community together.
